These
studies are significant when considering the tremendous amounts of skin
wounds in India. For instance, there are a significant number of burn patients
dying in India due to a lack of technology. For example, the recent tragedy
in Dabwali in which over 500 people, mostly children, died in a fire at
a year-end school party, presented the true severity of burns in India.
The death toll eventually rose to near 600 people. The increased
death toll was caused by the lack of an adequate treatment for burns for
those who did not initially die in the fire. In the end, many of
these patients died because of an ineffective treatment. BioCore's product

Diabetes is also a severe problem to the people of India. Based on the latest 1991 census conducted in India, nearly 6.4% of India's 843,000,000 people have diabetes. This results in 54 million current diabetic patients in India, 50% of which don't even realize they are diabetic. 90% of these diabetics will develop a complication from the disease called neuropathy. 60% of those with the neuropathy will develop peripheral neuropathy, which attacks the extremities. Ulcers will develop on the legs and feet, and they will not heal.
Currently, over 7 million people in India face the severity of a non-healing wound caused by diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Nearly 200,000 of these will have an amputation in an attempt to save their life. Almost 1.5 million Indian nationals will lose their lives from diabetes this year.
Add to this the 2 million people in India who have ulcers caused by venous stasis disease, as well as the 10 million people who suffer from severe pressure ulcers in the form of bed sores and renal ulcers. These figures are only compounded by the millions of Indians who are severely burned every year. Each one of these skin wounds suffer from possible infection and constant attack from the environment. In the end, a startling fact becomes strikingly clear: millions of Indians lose their lives each year from complications caused by wounds which won't heal, burns which destroy tissue and cause enormous pain, treatments which inflict financial ruin upon the patient and those who haven't died suffer from these wounds which destroy the quality of life. Something must be done.
