SkinTemp:
biosynthetic skin dressing
SkinTemp is a unique
composite nylon mesh to which a prorous collagen membrane is attached.
As such, it is a new innovation in the biomaterials industry. Collagen
can remain in contact with a wound and the nylon peeled off without disturbing
the wound.
Application of pressure to the nylon edges
increases pore size in the nylon allowing exudate to flow to the surface
where it can be easily wiped off. This material has limited permeability
and is biocompatible. SkinTemp can be used as
a temporary burn dressing prior to grafting or on donor graft sites. |
Medifil
: wound management material
Medifil consists
of spherical hydrophilic particles of collagen, 0.1 to 0.3 mm in diameter.
These particles are also available as a paste & a non- adherent pad.
Each gram of collagen particle absorbs approximately 40 to 60 times its
weight in fluid. Absorption causes suction & capillary action in spaces
between particles.
Studies indicate absence of cytotoxicity
and pyrogenicity in cell cultures & no irritation or contact sensitization
with the use of Medifil. The use of Medifil
to remove exudates results in reduction of inflammation & edema. The
resulting environment may be conducive to the normal healing process. |
