| Medifil consists
of spherical hydrophilic particles of collagen, 0.1 to 0.3 mm in diameter.
These particles are also available as a paste and a non-adherent pad. Each
gram of collagen particle absorbs approximately 40 to 60 times its weight
in fluid. Absorption causes suction and capillary action in spaces between
particles.
Studies indicate absence of cytotoxicity and pyrogenicity in cell cultures and no irritation or contact sensitization with the use of Medifil. The use of Medifil to remove exudates results in reduction of inflammation and edema. The resulting environment may be conducive to the normal healing process. |

| Do not pack the wound
tightly; allow for expansion of the particles.
Wounds may appear larger during the first few days of treatment due to the reduction of edema. Treatment.of the underlying condition (venous or arterial flow, pressure, etc.} should proceed concurrently with the use of Medifil. Medifil paste is insoluable collagen and should never be used as an injectable soulable collagen. All open and unused portions must be discarded. Not to be used on persons sensitive to materials of bovine origin. Some adverse reactions such as transitory pain, bleeding, blistering, edema and erythema occasionally have been reported in isolated cases. |
